Big increases in Covid-19 cluster cases of 24 in Madanrting (East Khasi Hills) and 13 in Mynthong (West Jaiñtia Hills) were reported in the state today.
As a result, West Jaiñtia Hills now stands at second among districts in the state with the highest levels of active Covid cases with 81.
One more Covid-19 fatality was also recorded in East Khasi Hills today, taking the district’s total to 102 and Meghalaya’s to 125.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that the deceased is Bilinson Ch. Momin (80) of Langkyrding, Nongmensong. The patient was admitted in Nazareth Hospital on December 10 and passed away on the same day.
He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension with COPD with COVID-19 Pneumonia.
The fatality rate in the district is now up to 1.32 percent. The state’s fatality rate remains at 0.98 percent.
There were 98 new infections reported today, along with 50 recoveries.
Of the new cases 61 were in East Khasi Hills, 25 in West Jaiñtia Hills, six in Ri-Bhoi, two each in East and West Garo Hills and one each in North and South Garo Hills.
In East Khasi Hills there were four new positive results among returnees, four in health workers and two in police personnel. Twenty-four were in Madanrting, four in Laban, three in Nongthymmai and two in Laitumkhrah.
In West Jaiñtia Hills 13 were in Mynthong, three in Khimusiang and one in Ïawmusiang.
Of the recoveries 23 were in East Khasi Hills, 16 in West Garo Hills, four each in South West Garo Hills and West Jaiñtia Hills and three in Ri-Bhoi.
In total Meghalaya has had 12,743 Covid-19 cases in total of which 11,977 have recovered and 641 are active.
The Health Department also informed that there were around 1,600 Covid-19 tests carried out in the state in the last 24 hours.
