Recoveries from Covid-19 in Meghalaya today soared by 307, with 99 new infections and one more fatality also reported.
The deceased was identified as Fullmai Dhar (36) of Nartiang, West Jaiñtia Hills. She had been admitted to the Maternity and Child Hospital in Jowai, which has been converted into the Covid wing of Jowai Civil Hospital, yesterday but died on the same day. The cause of death was cardiac pulmonary arrest with Covid-19, acute respiratory distress syndrome and Type 1 respiratory failure. Hers is the first fatality from the virus recorded in the district. The total death toll from the coronavirus in Meghalaya is now 78.
Meanwhile, the record 307 recoveries brought the number of active cases in the state down to 1,661. East Khasi Hills accounted for 205 (one armed forces/paramilitaries, 204 civilians) of these; the district now has 1,070 active infections.
Ri-Bhoi recorded 51 recoveries, West Garo Hills 28, South Garo Hills eight, South West Khasi Hills seven, South West Garo Hills three, East Garo Hills two, West Jaiñtia Hills two and East Jaiñtia Hills one.
Of the 99 new cases, East Khasi Hills accounted for 46, Ri-Bhoi 29, West Garo Hills 12, South Garo Hills seven, West Jaiñtia Hills two, North Garo Hills one, South West Khasi Hills one and West Khasi Hills one.
