Another 409 Covid-19 infections were reported from around the state today, along with five new fatalities. The total number of active cases in Meghalaya now stands at 3,062.
Four fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures, with the other from Ri-Bhoi being that of a three-year-old.
The deceased were identified as Khim Prasad Joshi (49) of Kench’s Trace in Shillong, Bheem Bahadur Sunar (90) of Mawnianglah, Flovina Dkhar (77) of Khliehriat, Pretty Chando (24) of Ichamati and Irene Makri (3) Umdihar.
Among the new infections today were five health workers and 33 returnees. Ri-Bhoi saw a big jump in new cases – 126 – but has also been carrying out plenty of testing of late.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 202 of today’s reported infections – 15 among returnees, six armed forces/paramilitaries, 101 high-risk contacts, 44 influenza-like illnesses (ILIs), four through screening, two health workers, nine severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), two in Happy Valley, one in Lachumiere, two in Lamavilla, one in Laitkor, one in Mawlai, one in Mawpat, one in Mawprem, one in Nongmynsong, one in Nongthymmai, one in Oakland, three in Polo, four in Pynursla, one in Rilbong and one in Rynjah.
Ri-Bhoi reported 126 new cases (31 high-risk, 14 in Umeit, 12 in Lumblei, 11 in Umran, seven in Mynsain, 14 in Ragmen, seven at St Jude Hostel, nine in Byrnihat, seven ILIs, one health worker, seven returnees, one SARI, five screening), West Garo Hills 25 (seven high-risk, six ILIs, four screening, three armed forces/paramilitaries, two returnees, two police, one health worker), West Jaintia Hills 20 (11 ILIs, six high-risk, three screening), East Jaintia Hills 19 (nine ILIs, five returnees, four high-risk, one health worker), South Garo Hills six (five screening, one returnee), West Khasi Hills six (three screening, two returnees, one ILI) and South West Garo Hills three (two screening, one returnee).
There were also 241 recoveries (the highest in a single day since November 17) – 173 in East Khasi Hills, 21 in Ri-Bhoi, 15 in East Garo Hills, 12 in West Garo Hills, 11 in West Jaintia Hills, four in South West Khasi Hills, four in East Jaintia Hills and one in South Garo Hills.
There are now 3,062 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,749 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 459, West Garo Hills 247, East Jaintia Hills 134, West Khasi Hills 126 and West Jaintia Hills 120.
In all, Meghalaya has had 20,129 Covid-19 cases, of which 3,062 are active, 16,834 have recovered and 233 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 83.63 percent. The fatality rate is 1.16 percent. More than 3.50 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the state as of today. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 350.57.
