A couple was found dead at their rented house in Mawïaban near Siejlieh village under West Khasi Hills district today.
According to police, the woman—Rosemary Lyngkhoi (26) was lying lifeless on the bed while the man—Bose Kharbani (25) was hanging from the ceiling in the same room.
A six-month old baby girl was found alive on the bedside and was taken to the Civil Hospital Nongstoiñ for medical attention.
According to residents of the village, they heard the child crying at night but were not aware of what could have happened inside the house. It was only after they heard the child crying continuously today that they went in and found the couple dead.
West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Herbert G Lyngdoh informed that soon after villagers informed about the incident, the crime scene unit was requisitioned from Shillong.
He said prima facie it looks like the man had possibly killed the woman and then hanged himself. “A sharp knife was found on the spot. It was also found through eye witnesses that the door entrance had also been bolted from inside,” the SP said.
All prime exhibits and will be sent to the forensic lab and a case has been registered in Nongstoiñ police station. The SP said an investigation is underway.
