Shillong, Mar 31: A counter FIR has been filed against social activist Greneth M Sangma for filing a “malicious and false” FIR against an assistant teacher of the Bolsalgre Government LP School.
The FIR was filed at Tura Police Station by Kenedy R Marak, who is the husband of the teacher, Jaynie N Sangma.
According to Marak, the FIR filed on March 24 by the activist is intended to harass his wife, malign her reputation, and cause mental agony to the family. The allegations made against her are baseless, fabricated, and motivated by personal vendetta, he said.
He said the complaint has concocted false charges against Jaynie, which amounts to defamation and character assassination. Kenedy said that the activist mocked his wife on social media by deliberately twisting her surname to humiliate her, ignoring the matrilineal traditions of Garo society.
According to the FIR, Greneth uploaded copies of RTIs and FIRs on social media platforms, which is a violation of the IT Act, 2000, and constitutes unlawful dissemination of official documents.
Accusing the activist of repeatedly harassing his wife by sending abusive and disturbing messages, he said confidential communications and unverified claims have been distorted and presented as evidence, violating her fundamental rights under Article 21 of the Constitution of India.
The activist had recently accused the teacher of misconduct, criminal antecedents, and violation of Meghalaya Service (Conduct) Rules. He demanded her termination for allegedly engaging in activities in direct violation of the rules and also accusing her of kidnapping and physical assault of young girls.
In a letter to the Director, School Education and Literacy (DSEL), the activist accused her of inciting communal hatred between the A’chik and Muslim communities.
