A friendly football match between the District Executive Force of the Meghalaya Police and the Shillong Press Club was organised at the SAI football ground here today as part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which will actually fall on Sunday.
“I am happy to witness the enthusiasm displayed today and I’m sure this will go a long way in enhancing our relationship so that, together, we can fight this evil,” Director General of Police LR Bishnoi said while commending the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police and his team for winning the match.
Displaying good skill and professionalism, the teams were locked at 1-1 at half time. However, in the end, the police prevailed over the scribes 4-1.
Scorers for the police were Robert Nongspung, Chesterfield Nongdhar (who scored a brace) and Kamal Thapa, while the lone goal for the Shillong Press Club was scored by Alemon Suchiang.
Others present at the event were Inspector General Mukesh Singh, Deputy Inspector General Davis R Marak, East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger, SP (Shillong City) Vivek Syiem and Shillong Press Club president David Laitphlang.
