Shillong, Jan 31: Contractors under the banner of Khasi-Jaintia Government Contractor Association today petitioned Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon on the non-payment of bills related to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Scheme.
Calling for his intervention in resolving payment issues, President of the Association, Welcoming Langi hoped that the MP will take up the issue in New Delhi.
He said that due to the non-payment of the JJM dues the contractors cannot pay their debts to the banks.
Khasi-Jaintia Government Suppliers’ Association Vice President FD Ramsiej alleged that the non-payment of their bills from the state government has been for years. “Most of us took loans from the banks to complete our works allotted to us,” he said.
Ramsiej said that the Shillong MP has assured that he will take up the matter with the central government.
According to him, the pending bill of contractors is not only for JJM schemes but also for Water Resources and other departments too.
Ramsiej said assurances made by the government that bills will be paid before Christmas, and then later in January, have not been met till date.
