Contractors in West Khasi Hills district has demanded release of their pending bills as per the completion and progress of the works with various State government departments.
Speaking to reporters in Nongstoiñ, the contractors said they invested their money in the government projects and with the Covid-19 pandemic they are under huge financial burden as their pending payments have not been released for many years now.
The contractors said they are not the only ones who are burdened by pending bills but workers who are engaged by them in different projects. They said that 90 per cent of the people in West Khasi Hills are engaged as workers and are burdened with debt especially when they (contractors) cannot pay.
