Transport and PWD (Buildings) Minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare has said that the cracks in the building of Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai here will soon be repaired by the contractor.
Speaking to media persons here today, Lamare said, “They (cracks) have to be repaired and they have to be reconstructed by the contractor. There is no doubt about it.”
When asked whether sub-standard work was responsible for the cracks, Lamare said, “In any big construction such things are bound to happen. A big building such as ISBT has only two cracks although it is a matter of concern.”
As far as the use of thermocol and rubber seals on the joints of the ISBT building, Lamare said it was done as per specifications.
“Seal joints are supposed to be like that. That is why the thermocol is being used, that is why rubber is being used,” he said.
Lamare explained that the use of thermocol and rubber seals at the joints was to prevent one concrete portion of the building from hitting another and prevent cracks.
Stating that judicial inquiry was not needed on the matter, Lamare said the PWD (Buildings) Department will carry out its own inquiry.
“We will definitely have an inquiry and after enquiry we will think about the steps to be taken. For such a small thing, judicial enquiry is not needed. The department itself can do it,” he said.
He also said that the Transport Department will reply if any query on the ISBT building was received from the DONER Ministry or North Eastern Council (NEC).
It may be mentioned that the ISBT project was funded by the DONER Ministry through the NEC at a cost of Rs 48.31 crore.
It was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on July 24, 2021 during his visit to the State.
