In view of the surge in Covid-19 cases, the West Garo Hills District Magistrate, Ram Singh, has issued an order under Section 144 of the CrPC today to enforce containment measures with effect from Monday morning to May 24.
The permitted activities include opening of essential commodities shops daily from 8am to 1pm, subject to regulation to be decided by the CEO of the Tura Municipal Board, opening of shops dealing in hardware, electrical, plumbing and sanitary ware, computer service centres, mobile repair and automobile repair shops and other non-essential shops on Tuesday and Thursday from 8am to 1pm and opening of hotels and eateries on take away basis.
In Tura Bazar, all essential supply shops will open on odd-even number basis from 8am to 1pm and maintenance of social distancing will be monitored by the Tura Municipal Board and the designated Executive Magistrate.
All markets bordering Assam from Singimari to Tikrikilla will open daily from 8am to 12 noon and non-essential shops in those areas will open on Tuesday and Thursday at the same time.
Construction activities, including roadworks, are to strictly adhere to Covid protocols, banks and banking services, post and telegraph and telecom services will function with limited staff and exempted central and state government offices will function from 10am to 1pm.
All educational institutions will be closed, while political, public, social and religious gatherings will be banned.
