A police constable was arrested for aiding and abetting a drug peddler, police said today.
According to police, Constable Triplepearl Pasi, of East Jaiñtia Hills DEF was arrested following an interrogation carried out on the arrested drug peddler. He had been allegedly helping a 29-year old youth, Nisooki War, who was arrested in connection with drug peddling.
East Jaiñtia Hills police had carried out an operation since last night after receiving a tip off that drug was being transported from Assam.
District SP, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said that during the operation that lasted till this afternoon, the ANTF and Lumshnong police arrested War of Lamyrsiang village and recovered 201 grams of suspected heroin packed in 17 boxes and two mobile phones from his possession.
War was travelling in a commercial vehicle and police said it was not seized since the drugs were transported without knowledge of driver or any other occupant.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act in Lumshnong police station.
Meanwhile, West Khasi Hills district police nabbed three drug traffickers from Nongstoiñ at around 1:30 am today. Police recovered 10gms heroin and three mobile phones. The car used in the crime was also seized.
