The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, to ensure that the state has all the required computer-based testing centres to meet the need students for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
“This requires taking immediate measures from your end to establish adequate testing centres in various parts of the state,” VPP general secretary Ricky AJ Syngkon said.
In the letter, Syngkon stated that at present youth from the state have to forego many entrance and competitive examinations in view of the lack of adequate testing centres thereby missing golden opportunities to get admission for higher studies or employment.
“Subjecting our youth to appear for the tests outside the state has huge financial and psychological trauma to them and their families,” the VPP general secretary stated.
The VPP also urged the Chief Minister to take a firm stand against the implementation of the CUET both for Under Graduate and Post Graduate and unless adequate testing centres are created in the state.
“Students cannot be victims of the government’s inability. Forceful and mindless implementation of the CUET will lead to large-scale drop out especially at the under-graduate level,” Syngkon said.
Recently, the state government has issued an advisory to all the principal of colleges and higher secondary schools and to all the District School Education Officers regarding the conduct of CUET-UG for admission to under-graduate and post-graduate colleges in Meghalaya.
