Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad Sangma has denied allegations that the office of his party in the Oakland area of the city was built illegally.
Replying to queries by media persons here today about the recent findings by RTI activist Disparsing Rani regarding alleged illegalities in the construction of the NPP office, Sangma said that the party possessed all the necessary documents from the Urban Affairs Department for construction of the office.
“We have got all the documents. Time and again our president and general secretary have asked the Urban Affairs Department if there is anything to be submitted, if there anything that is missing, if there anything that has gone wrong. We have not received any kind of notification from anybody saying that these are the things that are there or not there. So on what basis the RTI activist is saying that? But as a party, as an organisation, all the necessary procedures have been followed,” Sangma said.
However, Sangma did not mention if his party has received any permission to cut the trees on the land where the NPP office is being constructed.
According to Rani’s RTI findings, the NPP office does not have permission to cut trees or even to commence construction of the building on 10,000 sq feet of land allocated to the party.
The NPP office was built on a plot overlooking Polo and which was an urban forest of sorts, covered in trees.
