Chief Minister and NPP President, Conrad Sangma said that the BJP was not partnered in the coalition at the GHADC because the newly elected members wanted a “small and stable” Executive Committee (EC).
Stating that every election is fought on its own terms, Sangma said, “It is not necessary that in every election, we will be in coalition together.”
The BJP is part of the NPP led-Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition in the State.
On claims that the recently concluded GHADC election is a reflection of things to come in the 2023 Assembly election, the NPP national president said that then there will be different factors.
“All elections are different and they are fought on different issues and agendas,” Sangma said.
The loss of 25 sitting MDCs in GHADC election shows that the people of Garo Hills wanted change, he added.
On the issue of non-tribals being involved in the GHADC poll process, Sangma said that the issue should be discussed with every stakeholder. “We need to carry people along and it requires broad consultation and see how we could come to a unanimous decision and understanding.”
