The youth wing of the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement has pinned the blame for the poor state of affairs within Meghalaya at Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s door.
Speaking to Highland Post today, KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah said that the death of the former militant Cherishterfield Thangkhiew by police personnel is a violation of the right “protection of life and personal property” given to each citizen under Article 21 of the Constitution.
“What happened on that fateful day needs to be inquired thoroughly and stern action needs to be initiated against the people responsible for the merciless act,” Passah said.
The youth wing leader said that the government has failed miserably in numerous aspects concerning the welfare of the people since 2019 and the public are fed up with the state of affairs.
He also urged the junior partners in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance coalition to withdraw their support and “elect a Chief Minister from the majority”, referring to Khasi-Jaiñtia Hills, which sends a majority of MLAs to the Assembly.
