Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today mocked the Congress for stating that people will vote against NPP in the upcoming Assembly by-elections due to lack of governance.
“Well it depends which Congress is talking about it because there seems to be three or four Congresses right now,” Sangma said.
“The divided house that is there in the Congress first has to get their house in order. So really I think the Congress does not have the luxury right now to really look at us and blame or try to point fingers at us, it is important that Congress should get their house in order first and should sort out their differences,” he added.
Sangma who is also the national president of NPP also said that the question of anti-incumbency does not arise.
“We have been working very hard. We have done a lot of developmental works and people have been seeing it,” he said.
Sangma said that there are issues and concerns which every government has and faces.
“We are not saying that everything has been perfect but if you look at the overall work done in the last three and half years especially with the challenge of Covid in front of us, the government has done its best,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that the NPP candidates for the by-polls to Mawryngkneng and Mawphlang constituencies – Pyniaid Sing Syiem and Lamphrang Blah – are connected to the people.
“I am sure their personal rapport with the people will also reflect very positively in this election,” Sangma added.
Sangma and a host of party leaders accompanied the two candidates when they went to file their nomination papers here today.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, NPP State party president and Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi and cabinet minister Sniawbhalang Dhar among others were also present.
Meanwhile, two Congress candidates also filed their nominations today. They were Kennedy Khyriem for the Mawphlang seat and Highlander Kharmalki for the Mawryngkneng seat.
Apart from two constituencies in East Khasi Hills, Rajabala in West Garo Hills district is also having by-elections.
