Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma attended the swearing-in ceremony of his new counterpart in Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Guwahati today.
A Meghalaya cabinet meeting that was scheduled to be held today was postponed by 24 hours until tomorrow. It is not known, however, whether Sangma’s visit to Guwahati necessitated the rescheduling.
The CM’s trip to the neighbouring state comes as Meghalaya is reeling under the effects of the second wave of Covid-19. Assam if faring no better, with record numbers of new cases being reported in the state on an almost daily basis.
Also at the oath-taking ceremony were Union Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jitendra Singh, Tripura CM Biplab Deb, Manipur CM N Biren Singh and Sarma’s predecessor Sarbananda Sonowal.
On social media, Sangma said, “Honoured to be a part of the swearing-in ceremony. He (Sarma) has led from the forefront, gathering the admiration of millions in Assam and the North East. We will continue to work together. Godspeed, my brother!”
