Mawhati MDC Charles Margnar is dismayed by the agreement signed between Meghalaya and Assam to resolve the dispute in six areas along their common border but also dismayed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma lack of empathy and concern for the people who are unhappy with being handed over to the neighbouring state.
Yesterday, local headmen tried to meet Sangma at the Secretariat in Shillong but were turned away, ostensibly, the CM said, because they had not secured a formal appointment.
Marngar said today that Sangma statement that the boundary agreement cannot be revisited now that it has been signed means, in effect, that the CM has taken decisions on his own while ignoring the stakeholders on the ground and he described this as a grave injustice against the public.
He alleged that with Guwahati becoming ever more congested, the Assam government wants to get its hands on Khanapara and Them Marwet in order to turn them into "industrial townships".
