Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui held a meeting today on the issue of proceeding with the peace talks between the government and outlawed Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).
Also at the meeting was the government-appointed interlocutor for the negotiations, former IAS official Peter Dkhar, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Chief Secretary Rebecca V Suchiang and Special Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang.
Neither Rymbui nor Sangma was willing to reveal to the media much of what was discussed at the meeting.
The Home Minister, however, did say that the law and order situation was talked about and that it is too early to comment on the HNLC ceasefire.
Sangma also said that to reveal too much could jeopardise the peace talks.
“We have been clear from day one that every meeting doesn’t have a conclusion, it is just a process. The government is committed and is ensuring that continuous communication is carried out for peace talks,” Sangma said.
