The Chief Minister and the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills have both praised the efforts of the Civil Defence volunteers who are giving their time in the struggle against Covid-19 in the state.
On the DC office’s Facebook page, Isawanda Laloo explained that the volunteers are assisting the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) in the “respectful and safe funerals” of those who have died due to Covid-19.
“Trained by the SMB, their role has helped families and communities deal with the trauma of losing a loved one to the pandemic,” the post said.
The CM, Conrad K Sangma, shared this post on his social media pages and said, “We thank them for standing by families during their time of loss and supporting the community during these times”.
Laloo also encouraged others to volunteer in the Civil Defence.
“If you are a community/church volunteer or work for other organizations, you can help your neighbourhood/locality deal with Covid deaths by volunteering to help. Get in touch with your zone representatives to know more. And just a reminder – wear your masks and respect all Covid-19 protocols,” she said.
