Shillong, Aug 3: State Congress Party leader Manuel Badwar has expressed hope and faith in the judiciary to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of a large quantity of coal in the state.
Speaking to Highland Post, Badwar stated that the disappearance of 4,000 tonnes of coal, equivalent to hundreds of truckloads, is a serious matter and the court will ultimately decide on the issue. He questioned the claim made by cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla that the coal might have been washed away due to heavy rain.
“I think this government is drunk on power and thinks they can say anything and get away with it,” Badwar said.
He praised the Justice Katakey committee for its strong principles and commitment to uncovering the truth in the illegal coal matter.
The Congress leader expressed concern that money is being looted openly from the public and reiterated his faith in the judiciary to bring justice. “I believe the inquiry is happening and the law will take its own course. Whatever it takes, the truth will have to prevail because the people of Meghalaya want the truth to prevail,” he added.
