The Congress today released the first list of 26 candidates for the upcoming district council elections.
KHADC Deputy CEM Pynshngainlang N Syiem is seeking reelection from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency.
Congress MDC from Mylliem Ronnie V Lyngdoh has opted out of the polls and the candidate from the area is Banphiralang Basaiawmoit.
The party finalised 15 candidates to vie for a seat each in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and 11 candidates for the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council, after a selection process involving the Block Congress Committees (BCC), District Congress Committees (DCC), and the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC).
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) in a statement said that the selected candidates represent a blend of fresh faces, qualified professionals, and individuals trained to serve effectively in their roles. “This lineup underscores the Congress party’s commitment to bringing in capable and dynamic leadership, dedicated to the welfare and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya”, the party said.
“As we move closer to the elections, we appeal to the voters of Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills to place their trust in the Congress party and our candidates. The party remains steadfast in safeguarding the provisions of the Sixth Schedule and upholding the rights and interests of the tribal communities. We believe that the people of Meghalaya will give a clear mandate to the Congress Party, enabling us to continue our mission of progress, development, and justice for all”, the MPCC added.
