Members of the Mahila Congress in East Jaiñtia Hills today held a protest meeting at Wapung over rise in the prices of essential commodities and fuel.
President of the district Mahila Congress, Jhanika Siangshai, president of the Congress Wapungskur Unit, Darisha Ryngkhlem and Khliehriat Block Congress Committee president, Thunda Sana were also part of the protest.
Speakers at the protest demanded both the central and state governments to control prices and stop raising petrol and diesel prices, cooking gas and essential medicines as the poor and middle class have been worst hit by the hike.
The Congress workers said that the district is worst affected as together with the ban on coal mining the rise in price of essential commodities has affected the people.
