Congress Working President Ampareen Lyngdoh today stated that the party is not at all interested to topple the government but wants an all-party meeting to discuss critical issues affecting the State.
Lyngdoh said that the MDA government tends to react on issues when it’s too late even as law and order problem in the state has gotten very bad.
“What is the harm, to call for an all-party meeting? Congress is not interested to topple any government but all it wanted is a platform to discuss critical issues,” she questioned.
Stating that the ultimate motive of the no-confidence motion moved earlier by the Congress was to create a platform to discuss crucial matters and not to topple a government, she said, “It was oblivious that we would lose. After all, we don’t have the numbers.”
Lyngdoh said in a democracy it is these kinds of businesses (no-confidence motion) that are brought to the house to call attention to all those areas seen as wanting like the crucial disarray in the power department, mining, and environment, besides others.
On the satisfaction expressed by the Hill State People’s Democratic Party on the performance of the MDA government praising it for trying to resolve the long-pending boundary dispute with Assam and United Democratic Party on the “number game” it harps, the Congress working president said, “These are all political gimmicks. Every political party, that is a part of any government, has to take responsibility for every action taken by their government. You cannot say we are only this number and just inside a bus that is bigger than us.”
“Any decision taken by the government is part of their concept and whether they have been informed or not depends on them. We have had coalition partners in the past and coalition partners have been told about every move the government wants to make. If the crucial move has been made by the government and they have been left in the dark then it is for them to decide,” she said.
Stating that people are aware of the goings on and the government cannot take them for granted, Lyngdoh said, “We have provided an option and we will not comment on their personal decision but the Congress is there to support anyone in the event of them wanting to relook at this entire governance that has failed in every respect.”
On the law and order front concerning the death of the ex-HNLC leader, Lyngdoh observed that the position of a Home Minister is a crucial one and second to the position of a chief minister who should be privy to every information and action of the government.
“Who is the person in charge of these matters? The person put in charge of these matters is expected to give us a reply. Did he know or didn’t he know? Is he in or is he out. One cannot say that somebody outside the government is responsible in these matters,” she said adding that what has been put in the public domain needs to be questioned.
