Shillong, Feb 3: Members of the Congress Party in Ri-Bhoi staged a peaceful sit-in at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Nongpoh to protest the central government’s move to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with the VB G-RAM-G.
The protesters, led by Ri-Bhoi District Congress Committee president Rocky Marweiñ, demanded retention of the MGNREGA scheme. They urged the Centre to withdraw the proposed changes and retain MGNREGA in its original form.
This protest follows an earlier demonstration at Ïew Byrnihat by the Congress.
