The Congress Party became the first through the door of the Returning Officer for Ri-Bhoi, with four of its candidates filing their nominations for the February 27 Assembly election today.
The four who did were sitting Mawhati MDC Charles Marngar for the Mawhati Assembly seat, Celestine Lyngdoh for Umsning, Stanleywis Rymbai for Umroi and the lone woman among them, Rona Khymdeit, for Nongpoh. Edrian C Mylliem, the party’s pick for Jirang, will file his nomination papers tomorrow.
Speaking to the media afterwards, Marngar and Lyngdoh said that though the people of Meghalaya have witnessed the turmoil within the Congress in the last 15 months or so brought about by a series of defections that left them without any representation in the outgoing Assembly, the party has examined the issues and will come out stronger with its current choices of candidates.
