The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said that the reason Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi was denied permission to hold a public gathering at the University of Science and Technology Management (USTM) in Ri-Bhoi recently was because the part did not file the requisite paperwork.
Gandhi and the Congress alleged that permission had been denied by the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner because of pressure from the BJP.
However, the saffron party shared a letter from the DC explaining the reason for the denial of permission. The applicant, Congress legislator Charles Marngar, did not include a no-objection certificate (NOC) from USTM and the local headman in his application for a public interaction while Gandhi was in the district as part of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
