The recent support by the Congress towards policies of the National People’s Party has not gone down well with many, with AITC leader, Dr Mukul Sangma calling the move by the INC leaders “desperate.”
Two days prior, the Congress, in what is an unprecedented move moved to support the NPP led MDA alliance shedding its tag of opposition as well as joining an alliance where the BJP is one of the prime partners.
It had earlier been hinted that the Congress sans the former CM could even think of an alliance with the NPP, a move that seems to have been reflected in the Congress cozying up with the NPP with the recent overture.
“It is a reflection of the fact that the Congress in the state of Meghalaya is in complete disarray. They are victims of confusion. That is the reason why I have said that instead of remaining in INC, if they have the resolve to serve the people and the state, it is time for them to join Trinamool Congress. It is the only platform where they can do justice to the responsibilities vested upon them,” said Dr Mukul after a meeting inducting members of the Congress into the AITC fold in Dalu.
Calling the move of the INC a complete betrayal to what the Congress has stood for, Mukul said, “If you go by the declaration of Congress Legislature Party, associating them with NPP and BJP led MDA government or in other words, Congress has decided to be part of the government where NPP and BJP are actively associated. It is contrary to what the Indian National Congress has stood for. It is the reflection of their desperation to remain in power.”
The AITC leader alleged that some of the INC members even attempted to be part of the government after the announcement of results in March 2018.
“I think it is their desperation that has led them to this. Twelve of us merged with AITC on November 25. In these few days, they have not been in a position to reaffirm their commitment to keep themselves in sync with what they promised in 2018,” added the former CM.
