The Congress has been accused of trying to destabilise the Meghalaya government after leader of opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma called for a new dispensation.
Deputy Chief Minister and NPP leader, Prestone Tynsong said the job of the opposition was to create “instability” and “confusion”.
“Be it Congress, be it NPP be it any other political party…when you are in the opposition, your priority is what? Very simple. To create instability and confusion,” Tynsong said.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, be it in the national level or in the state level everybody knows that (priority of the opposition).
“But ultimately as I said we are here be it MDA government or be it any other government we are here to make sure that safety of citizens of the State is fully protected,” he added.
The State BJP too launched a sharp attack against the Congress and said that the party was trying to take advantage of the current situation.
BJP national council member, Bashailang Khongwir said, “Such moves by Dr Sangma will go wasted because the coalition government is a non-congress.”
Khongwir said that the Congress is aggravating the situation by taking the local issue to the national level. “He could have instead worked together with the government in this time of crisis as a responsible opposition leader instead of trying to destabilise the government,” Khongwir stated.
