The exodus of Congressmen from Garo Hills continued with another secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) and a former MLA contestant, Saljagringgrang R Marak, resigning from the party yesterday.
In his letter to the president of the Indian Youth Congress, Srinivas BV, Marak informed that his decision was taken because the Congress high command did not consult the Meghalaya state leadership prior to appointment of the new president, Vincent Pala.
Marak had stood as an independent candidate in the 2018 elections from the Baghmara constituency and had performed creditably. He later joined the MPYC and was one of the many state secretaries.
“The present president does not have knowledge of the party grassroots. The AICC central leadership did not pay heed to Congress workers’ demand for Charles Pyngrope to be MPCC president but rather chose Vincent Pala, overlooking the state members’ demands,” he said.
Saljagringgrang, through a release, made his intentions clear of joining the Trinamool Congress and its state leader, Dr Mukul Sangma.
“TMC shares very good secular credentials. Besides, Mamata Banerjee is a force to be worked with to defeat the communal forces like BJP and their allies,” said Marak on his decision.
