Three complaints have already been lodged in the State with regards to whatsapp numbers impersonating elected representatives, the latest is Law Minister, James Sangma.
The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) Shillong City President Mayborn Rapthap today filed a complaint against a contact number +91-9679489220 for impersonating Sangma with an intention to dupe people of money pertaining to Amazon gift card.
According to the letter, the person using the number has been asking people for money using various means, including Amazon gift cards and clicking on unverified web links in an attempt to cheat them.
Earlier, Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh and Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai reported similar cases.
