Despite more than two months passing after they made a complaint against norms being flouted in the formation of the new school management committee (SMC) at the Bhaitbari Madrassa Secondary School, the complainants have questioned the inaction from the education official on the matter.
In a complaint filed by the secretary of the school, Abdul Aziz, and parents to the District School Education Officer (DSEO) of West Garo Hills in March, they pointed to manipulations done by one Saiful, who, along with others, allegedly hijacked the formation of the SMC and complained about the non-payment of teachers’ salaries.
According to the complainants, the SMC’s term ended in November 2020 with a direction given by the DSEO to hold a meeting after the Covid situation improved to form a new SMC. The then SMC, after a consultation with parents, decided to hold the meeting after the completion of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections last month.
However, during the time, Saiful reconstituted the SMC, allegedly through underhand means, and approached the DSEO for the formation of a new managing committee.
“He also complained that the salary of teachers had not been paid, which is not true. It came as a shock when, through these manipulations, the headmaster of the school, who has been the same teacher since the school was opened, was changed and the science teacher was promoted to the post,” said Aziz.
Aziz added that the promotion of the teacher was illegal as norms were not followed and there already was a headmaster.
“They made a mockery of the system by this out of turn promotion when a headmaster of the school is already there. We feel there has been something sinister going on in these dealings. However, despite our request for an investigation into the matter, the DSEO has conveniently just sat on it and even approved the SMC proposed by Saiful. This makes no sense,” added Aziz.
