Shillong, Apr 7: In a collaborative effort to combat tuberculosis in the state, NEIGRIHMS partnered with the Meghalaya State TB Control Society to organize two comprehensive health camps as part of their 100 Days TB Campaign.
The first health camp took place in Nongmensong on April 4, where 44 community members underwent screening through chest X-rays. Among these, eight individuals presented with abnormal findings.
Following this, the second camp at Mawryngkneng on April 6 saw 72 participants, with nine X-ray results indicating abnormalities.
NEIGRIHMS said sputum testing was initiated for these individuals, to ascertain the presence of tuberculosis or other respiratory conditions.
The organisers said the camp also focused on general health examinations, providing broader healthcare services to the community. A total of 32 patients benefited from these general health interventions.
NEIGRIHMS Director Prof. Nalin Mehta said these camps represent a significant step in the campaign highlighting the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between medical institutions and state health bodies in delivering vital health services and actively working towards the elimination of tuberculosis in Meghalaya.
