A Brigadier in the army, Neelesh Anand, Commandant of Assam Regimental Centre in Happy Valley, has been accused of sexual harassment by a junior officer’s wife.
Police have registered a case based on the complaint of the woman, who is the wife of a colonel.
The woman filed a complaint last Monday detailing multiple incidents of alleged misconduct by the senior officer, including inappropriate remarks, physical intimidation and threats.
The latest such incident occurred on March 8 during a function at the officers’ mess. The Brigadier allegedly made inappropriate remarks about her and his advances did not stop despite her disinterest, even as he used abusive language against her, she alleged. The Commandant even physically charged at her, forcing her husband to intervene, the complaint added.
A second, earlier, incident was also related, this time from April 13 last year when the Brigadier supposedly made a sexually-tinged comment about the dress the complainant was wearing during a housewarming event. Two months later, the accused allegedly held her hand in front of her husband.
The woman said she was traumatised by these incidents, due to which she did not raise the matter with police earlier. Based on her allegations, police have filed a case under sections of the law pertaining to sexual harassment, insulting the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation.
