Shillong, Feb 6: The All India Trinamool Congress in Meghalaya has slammed the NPP-led MDA government stating that the coal mine explosion that killed 25 miners is a “state-enabled homicide.”
“Under the NPP regime, illegal mining has become an industry of death, with workers pushed into unregulated tunnels, denied safety, denied dignity, and ultimately denied life itself. The NPP government must answer,” AITC said in a statement.
The devastating dynamite explosion at an illegal coal mine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills has sparked widespread condemnation, with various organisations and leaders expressing their outrage and demanding accountability.
The Thma U Rangli-Juki (TUR) has strongly condemned the Meghalaya State Government for its role in enabling illegal coal mining, stating that the tragedy “exposes the criminal apathy of those entrusted with governance”.
TUR has demanded the identification, prosecution, and punishment of those responsible, including mine operators and officials who enabled the lawless ecosystem.
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has also expressed deep sorrow over the death of at least 18 workers, terming it a result of “long-standing government failure and neglect”.
MPCC has demanded fixing of responsibility at the highest political and administrative levels, immediate action against officials who ignored or enabled illegal mining, and strict enforcement of the mining ban.
