Nine Librarians from nine Chief Minister’s Youth Centres (CMYC) participated in a three day training session in Guwahati to understand and appreciate the significance of community libraries in India.
The training programme which began on December 1 at Kharguli, was facilitated by Free Libraries Network (FLN), an international body working with libraries and library pedagogies around the world with an objective to establish connections with libraries across various states, fostering collaboration within the broader library community.
This is the first training that the CMYC librarians participated along with 32 other participants from different states of the country such as West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan and Assam.
The CMYC said the training also provided a platform for insightful discussions and played a crucial role in raising awareness among participants regarding the rights associated with reading and education.
A CMYC librarian said, “From this workshop, we learned how crucial libraries are for rural areas and for children who love reading. Everyone in the community should have the feeling of ownership, the right to read, and the right to seek knowledge.”
