The Chandra Mohan Jha (CMJ) University has been asked to cease all financial transactions, administrative and academic activities by the Meghalaya government after the Supreme Court directed its closure.
Three officials from the Education Department were tasked to visit and inspect the CMJ University campus in Jorabat, Ri Bhoi district today.
During the visit the team, accompanied by the district Executive Magistrate along with police personnel interacted with the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the university and informed that an Administrator will be appointed.
Additionally, the University has been directed to ensure that no assets are moved from the campus, and that no files, computers, hard disks, or other materials are removed.
Meanwhile, the Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner has written to the HDFC Bank in Lalganesh, Kahilipara in Guwahati and the South India Bank, East of Kailash Branch, New Delhi to freeze the debit transactions of all accounts related to the CMJ University and the CMJ Foundation.
The apex court yesterday directed the dissolution of the university, supporting the state government’s 2014 decision to shut down the institution after allegations of “mismanagement, maladministration, indiscipline and fraudulent intent”.
