Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today met Union Health Minister J P Nadda and requested for upgrading NEIGRIHMS to a status of ‘institute of national importance’.
During the meeting with Nadda, the chief minister apprised on the healthcare scenario in the State and sought the Health Ministry’s support for projects and initiatives.
Sangma also urged the Centre’s assistance in strengthening healthcare projects and initiatives to maintain the healthcare sector in the State.
He also highlighted the establishment of three new medical colleges in the State.
It may be mentioned that the State government has set a target to make Shillong Medical functional by September 2025 while the Tura Medical College will follow suit by 2026-2027.
The State government has also agreed to assist in the setting up of a private medical college at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) in Ri-Bhoi district.
