Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has returned to Shillong happy with the way his meetings with central government figures in New Delhi over the last few days went.
Sangma told the media today that he had met the Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog while in the national capital to discuss certain externally aided projects that have been stuck pending approval.
“The Vice-Chairman has assured me that he will be clearing them,” Sangma said, adding that these projects cover a range of sectors and amount to around Rs 1,000 crore.
The CM also met the Information Technology Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, and discussed the need for more mobile phone towers in the remote areas of the state.
“We are having some issues with the government of India. I have brought those to the notice of the minister and he has said that he will ensure those issues are also addressed,” Sangma said.
Specifically, as the state is hilly, the Meghalaya government’s position is that terrain constraints will require special considerations for projects under the Universal Service Obligation Fund.
