Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma chaired a meeting today of the Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted to examine GST concession and exemption on Covid-19 relief materials, as mandated by the Union Finance Ministry.
Speaking to the media after the web conference, Sangma said that several recommendations were made by the GoM, including GST reductions on items that will be submitted to the GST Council by June 8.
Some of the items on which concessions were sought include medicines, hand sanitisers, thermometers, ventilators, medicine for black fungus, vaccines, diagnostic kits, RT-PCR kit, etc.
The GST Council will take a final call on the concessions after the GoM submits its recommendations.
“Covid items that people or patients have to buy directly, we will make sure to bring down these rates, so that maximum relief can be given to the public,” the CM stated.
The GoM consists Sangma as the convenor, as well as cabinet ministers from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Odisha, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
