Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today assured the central government that Meghalaya is fully committed to the disability sports complex that will be constructed in New Shillong.
Forty acres of land at Mawkhanu, Mawpdang, has been allotted for the purpose of this sports facility.
“I would like to assure you that we are fully committed to this project at the highest levels and that the state government will bear the cost for land levelling, site development and provision of all necessary amenities for the Centre for Disability Sports,” Sangma stated in his letter to Virendra Kumar, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment.
Sangma also assured the full support and cooperation of the state government in the timely completion of this sporting project. According to him, this centre would cater to the North East in general and Meghalaya in particular where such sporting facilities are critically required.
He also stated that Meghalaya will host the National Games in 2027 and such a sports centre for persons with disabilities would be an immense contribution towards providing the requisite infrastructure required for the National Games.
The one to be set up in Shillong is one of five such centres for disability sports in the country.
