Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma has asked all the district heads to work in tandem with community leaders to identify high risk areas prone to floods and landslides and shift people to safe zones.
The chief minister held a second review meeting online today with all the chairmen of the regional committees, deputy commissioners, police officials and departments to chalk out the plan of action for the districts.
He called on the team to- ensure the supply of essentials, shifting of people out of high risk houses, identify more shelter homes, ensure early release of ex-gratia payment to families of the deceased and road connectivity to the districts.
Stating the loss of lives in the State in the past few hours is sad and unfortunate, the chief minister has assured assistance to districts.
During the meeting, the deputy commissioners informed about the initiatives undertaken including damages, death toll and rescue and relief Operations in affected locations.
Meanwhile, cabinet minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar visited the disaster hit South West Khasi Hills district today to assess the situation and also visited the family of a woman killed in a house collapse at Jashiar.
Tongkhar, who also chairs the regional committee for West, South West and Eastern West Khasi Hills, announced Rs 4 lakh relief to be paid by the State government to the family.
He also visited a road washed away by rains at Twah Ringai in that connects Rangjadong to Ngunraw.
Revenue and Disaster Management minister, Kyrmen Shylla on the other hand visited a family in Laitlarem village in Nongspung, where four siblings died when their house was washed away by overflowing mud yesterday.
