As part of celebration Clean India Month from October 1 to 31 launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) Shillong, the Seng Samla Dong Nongdalum, Umphyrnai (Mawryngkneng Block) organised a cleaning of plastic wastes yesterday at Umphyrnai.
The programme began with a welcome speech by K Kharkongor, National Youth Volunteer, NYKS followed by a talk from Greetingson Kharkongor, president of Seng Samla Dong Nongdalum.
The speakers dwelt on the need and importance to eradicate indiscriminate throwing of plastics at home, locality and in the village.
They emphasised that it is the duty and responsibility of every resident of the village to keep the locality clean and free from plastics.
After the function, a cleaning drive was conducted in the locality in which plastic wastes were picked up and collected.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Bannangrijaijai Kharkongor, secretary. Seng Samla Dong Nongdalum.
