Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has refuted claims of the petrol union of police harassment during a fuel theft raid in Ri Bhoi district, saying “it is only a misconception.”
The North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union had accused Meghalaya police of harassment to tanker drivers and helpers during the raids on November 24.
Sangma said, “The claim was a misconception as police was only doing their duty to ensure that the goods which were meant to reach a particular location is delivered 100 per cent.
He said petrol pump owners had also complaint of siphoning or leakage of the petrol at certain locations. “It was based on their complaint that an inquiry was conducted and police found evidences. Maybe some of the suppliers were not happy and there was some reaction to it,” Sangma stated.
The chief minister said the authorities are doing their bid for the interest of the public.
