Shillong, Aug 29: The Achik Welfare Society (AWS), under A.B. Krima No. IV inaugurated its Civil Service Coaching & Training Centre today at the District Auditorium, Tura.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma who attended the inauguration underscored the need to nurture and guide youth. He stressed that success in civil service examinations is not limited by background, but determined by belief, hard work, and discipline.
He also spoke on the importance of following the right methods and scientific approaches in exam preparation, sharing his personal experiences on learning to deal with pressure and adopting effective study techniques.
He urged aspirants not only to aim for success but also to remember their roots and give back to society once they achieve their goals.
The AWS submitted two memoranda to the Chief Minister highlighting the urgent infrastructural and resource needs of the coaching centre, including classrooms, library facilities, and study materials. It also called for the establishment of a rehabilitation centre in Tura to address drug abuse and substance addiction among youth.
Responding to the memorandum, the Chief Minister assured that the government, under its DREAM project (Drug Rehabilitation, Elimination and Awareness Mission), has already earmarked Rs 15 crore to support rehabilitation initiatives across the state.
He assured that the Social Welfare Department would immediately coordinate with AWS to set up a rehabilitation centre in Garo Hills within one to two months.
Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal, Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Albinush R. Marak and others attended the function.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also conducted a locality visit at Boldak A’ Ding L.P. School. During the visit, he interacted with community members and assured them of the government’s commitment towards addressing local issues and strengthening grassroots development.
