Chief Minister today said that the cancer wing of the Shillong Civil Hospital would be completed by December.
However, addition of new medical equipments will take a little time, he said. “Procurement of the equipments is being done through different processes. In the meantime the other facilities female and male wards and the day care wards will be ready and used,” he added.
The chief minister who visited the department of the hospital, which was earlier used as Covid-19 centre during the pandemic, said that he was happy with its progress, though there are certain things that have to be changed for overall improvement.
It may be mentioned that the foundation stone of the Cancer Wing was laid in March 2011. Due to the rise in the cancer patients, the State government signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Atomic Energy to set up a cancer wing at the Shillong Civil Hospital.
The construction of the building was sanctioned in 2008 at a cost of Rs 26, 16, 29,780.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also inspected the Shillong Government College of Engineering.
