Shillong, Jan 12: The Shillong Traffic Police has urged city residents to follow traffic instructions to ensure smooth traffic management, road discipline for public safety.
In an advisory issued on Monday, citizens have been advised to not to park their vehicles along designated No-Parking stretches and busy corridors.
Violators will have to shell out Rs 500 as penalty, Rs 1500 for subsequent offences and Rs 2000 including towing under Section 177/179 (1) of the MV Act. Similar penalties will also be levied from local taxis and tourist taxis who do not park at designated taxi stands or authorized parking areas.
The advisory also warned drivers against rash driving and overtaking, especially in congested areas, curves, junctions, and narrow roads. Riders of two-wheelers are also instructed to maintain proper lane discipline, avoid zig-zag riding, over-speeding, and any form of dangerous or reckless driving.
The advisory reminded riders of using protective headgear (helmets). Violators will be booked under Section 179(1) / 184 (f) / 194 D of the MV Act and fined Rs 2,000/Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 for subsequent offences / Rs 1,000).
Movement of vehicles carrying hay, straw, or similar materials without proper covering is strictly prohibited within city limits, the advisory said. Violators shall be prosecuted under Section 179(1) MV Act with penalty of Rs 2000.
Anyone found to be driving under the influence of alcohol exceeding the permissible limit (30 mg. per 100 ml. of blood) shall be punishable under Section 185 MV Act with a fine of Rs 10,000 or imprisonment which may extend up to six months or with both.
