Shillong, Jan 14: The ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute (ICAR-CCRI) recently conducted a training programme for citrus farmers of Sohkwai village, focusing on ‘Production and Rejuvenation Practices of Khasi Mandarin’.
The programme aimed to address declining productivity, pest pressure, and ageing orchards in Meghalaya’s key mandarin-growing pockets.
Fifty-three farmers participated, learning about scientific interventions to restore orchard health, conservation of citrus germplasm, and modern propagation techniques like budding and grafting. Experts emphasized sustainable orchard management, organic inputs, and integrated pest management approaches.
The programme included hands-on sessions, distribution of organic inputs, and an open interaction session. Local leaders encouraged farmers to adopt recommended practices to enhance yields and livelihoods.
The initiative aims to restore Khasi Mandarin productivity and sustainability in Ri-Bhoi and beyond.
