The Lasker of Chisikgre, Minatson Sangma has alleged harassment at the hands of the CEM of GHADC, Benedic Marak after the CEM refused to meet him thrice after being summoned by the department of Rural Administration.
In a release by the Lasker, Sangma said he received three summons dated October 21, November 1 and the last one on November 17.
A war of words has been ensuing between various residents and civil society leaders of the B-Mahal areas and the GHADC CEM. While the protestors alleged that their lands were being sold off by the district council head for his personal benefit, the CEM has claimed that the intention was not to grab or sell lands but to provide safety, security, and uplift people’s lives to bring overall development to the region.
Further the projects apparently being set were that of the Meghalaya Battalion Camp, Solar Park and introducing economically viable agricultural practices as a means to provide job opportunities to the unemployed while promising rehabilitation to those residing in these areas.
The lasker was one of the people who were lambasted by the GHADC CEM for apparently misleading the people on the issue.
“I went to his office chamber three times on the above mentioned dates and time to seek clarification on the summons on the ongoing matter of the B Mahal areas. He however did not allow me to meet or enter his chamber stating that I was barred at that time. If he feared talking to me, why am I being summoned again and again,” he asked.
Sangma added that he has been harangued and blamed me during his meeting on October 6 at Pedaldoba under West Garo Hills (WGH). The Lasker alleged that the GHADC CEM had claimed that Sangma feared meeting him.
“I, as the Lasker (Lower Chisikgre Village Court) strongly condemn his behaviour and will never go back to his office chamber anymore. However I invite him to my office to discuss the various matters of the B Mahal area,” said Minatson.
