The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has been alerted to the condition of six children of a woman from Niriang village who faced the most atrocious form of abuse in a case of domestic violence.
It is learnt that the children are traumatised that they have refused to live in their own house but have been taken in by their eldest aunt who lives in the same village.
Sources said that they had seen their father physically assaulting their mother.
The eldest, a girl is said to be working as a domestic help in Shillong, the second child, a boy, 12 years of age was put to work as a cow-herder.
SCPCR chairperson Agatha Sangma said the commission would take up their case and give them protection. She said a suo moto call will be taken up and find out all the details for further action for the welfare of the traumatised children.
